9/11/2003 Legislative Alert
From Jefferson City for Immediate Distribution Far and Wide On a HISTORIC day in Missouri, the Missouri Senate followed the House
and SUCCESSFULLY overrode Governor Holden's veto of HB349 by a vote
of 23 to 10.
HB349 will now become the law for the citizens of Missouri. There is
still some confusion as to when the law actually takes effect. Some
say it is law now... some say it will become law in thirty days.
Bottomline... whether it is now or thirty days we have been waiting
for this historic day for twelve years!
Now... about out of state permits. This is new to Missouri and it
will take some time for our law enforcement agencies to adjust to the
permit system. It will also take time for them to become familiar
with the law concerning reciprocal licenses.
A word to those with out-of-state permits... wait until it is clear
WHEN the law actually takes effect. Then also be aware that you may
run into a law enforcement officer that may not be aware that your
permit is valid. You should always be polite and don´t argue.
You may actually be detained. Until the newness of the law wears down
be cautious.
It will now also take time for law enforcement agencies across this
state figure out how to implement the law. It will also take some time
to get the training up and on line.
BUT.... we NOW HAVE A LAW! A GOOD LAW that was fought for hard. We owe
so much to so many legislators. I will send out another email with
more details later but...
Celebrate!!!!!!
We are NOW THE THIRTY-SIXTH state to have a SHALL-ISSUE law!
Congratulations to all for now.
